Shaw Homes and Condos for Sale

Shaw has a lot of residents who have lived there for many generations, but it is also attracting new residents who like the city's vibrant atmosphere.

Shaw has a combination of historic and modern homes as well as revitalized retail, trendy restaurants and pulsing nightlife which is resulting in a renaissance for its residents today. The area was developed in the early 1900's with urban residential streets and bustling commercial districts, side by side. It was home to cultural luminaries before the Harlem Renaissance and held on to this proud heritage despite economic decline in the 1980s.

Thanks to an influx of new residents, investors and buyers, this area of D.C. is now one of the trendiest communities in the entire District. With a rich history and a wealth of new investment, the U Street/Shaw neighborhood is the place to be.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The nightlife and commute to downtown are close by when living in this neighborhood.

It's recognized as one of the city's most up-and-coming neighborhoods with a spectacular dining/bar scene and plenty of shops. It's gotten a lot of recent buzz and for good reason since this trendy neighborhood is one of DC's best.

THE LIFESTYLE

Authentic with a special vitality.

THE MARKET

Houses of both single-family and multi-unit design, as well as modern lofts and luxury condominiums, provide a wide range of housing options in Shaw.

There are many different types of housing in Shaw including single-family and multi-unit row homes as well as modern loft condominiums. Luxury condominiums have also been added recently, providing residents with even more options.

Typically, Shaw is a fairly low-key neighborhood. Once night comes, expect a fair share of Ubers blocking traffic, dropping off or picking up locals who know the best spots for a beer or three. Thankfully, for those who would prefer to ditch their car or car-sharing service, there are multiple Metro stations within walking distance of the late-night action. A few bus routes also drive by, including the 70, 71, and G2 routes.

Because so much renovation has been done in the area, the real estate in Shaw is an eclectic mix. Prospective buyers can find pre-war row houses throughout the area as well as sleek, new condominiums. Some buildings have already been renovated, while others still need some updates, allowing buyers to put their own stamp on their new homes.

In recent years, Shaw's tree-lined streets have become increasingly popular with real estate investors. The neighborhood now seamlessly blends with upscale Logan Circle to the west and U Street Corridor to the north. Infill condo development has further gentrified this urban area, although there is still some debate as to whether it has become too expensive for all but high-income earners. Despite this controversy Shaw remains a vibrant community with excellent transport links including access to two Metro stations - Shaw-Howard University on Georgia Avenue SE and U Street NW.
